About Hinamatsuri
Japanese Girls' Festival
Join us in transforming the Japanese Girls' Festival into a vibrant cultural exploration that welcomes people of all genders, including men, boys, and LGBTQIA+ communities!
Hinamatsuri (a.k.a. Girls' Day or Doll's Day) is a special celebration of Japanese culture honoring girls' happiness, health, and growth. Our "Hinamatsuri-Reimagined" Festival blends tradition with bold modernity, celebrating Japanese culture through the lens of contemporary gender equality, multiculturalism, diversity and inclusion.
While honouring the thousand-year-old tradition of celebrating grace and beauty, and praying for the safety and protection of women and girls, our version of Hinamatsuri also wishes to embrace the empowerment and independence of women and girls in Australia today. We create space for reflection around a central question:
"What does happiness mean for girls and women today?"
Timed near International Women's Day, our celebration sparks inter-generational dialogue, honouring the past while amplifying voices shaping the future.
We warmly invite men, boys, LGBTQIA+ communities, and people of all cultural backgrounds, especially those who are not Japanese, to join us. Meaningful cultural exchange happens when everyone shows up!
